Skimming.
Skimming

A two coat system where all cracks or joints will be first covered in fibre tape to reduce the risk of cracking.

A couple of coats of PVA/Blue grit or whatever is needed will then be applied if necessary to the surface.

Thin coat beads will then be applied to all external corners and coated with finishing plaster.

Then two coats of finishing plaster will be applied to this and will be finished to a highly smooth finish using trowels.

Rendering.

Rendering

A two/Three coat sand and cement rendering system where all surfaces are treated as neccasary before rendering.

This particular house had the the old failing render hacked off first and then was coated with a SBR/Cement slurry first to seal the walls and eliminate dust so the rendering had a good substance to key too.

Render stop beads were then applied to the building and had its first coat of render, which was then scratched ready for the second coat to be applied within the next day or two.

The second coat was applied then finished with a float for an extremely flat finish ready for Tyrolean.

Float and Skim.
Float and Skim

A backing plaster is applied to any brick, stone or breezeblock surface with up to three coats after any preperation that is needed first.

It is then levelled off using a darby and feather edges and then float finished to give it a key and flatten it ready for skimming.

Two coats of finishing plaster are then applied over the top of this to complete that highly smooth finish.

Tyrolean
Tyrolean

Tyrolean is a cement based coloured finish for rendering.

The rendering must be flat and dry to apply the tyrolean

It is applied with a Tyrlean gun which flicks the tyrolean onto the wall for a course like coloured finish
